Generally, running shoes are very functional, that's also primarily what most people buying shoes in a specialty store care about at first. However, I couldn't help but notice one major fashion trend that seems to be happening amongst all the different shoe companies: lots and lots of color. It started popping up a few purchasing cycles ago, and it's showing no signs of stopping soon. I just saw shoes from every company that are due out in the first half of 2013 and it was a full spectrum.
Shoes that had previously been white, or black, but now running shoes are also quite fashionable, they are produced in versions with colored midsoles and vibrant tones. Runners seem to be gravitating towards footwear that is bright, partially for fun. Furthermore, we're having far more window and impulse shopping from non-runners wandering through town than ever before.
I'm sure eventually the pendulum will swing back the other way, and muted grays, blues and blacks will be back in vogue. These trends always seem to have a way of reversing themselves. Until then though, bust out your sunglasses because it's going to get bright there.
